Norwegian duo TAPE TRASH is back and coming in loud with their latest single We Will Collide — and if you’ve got a soft spot for the likes of Bloc Party, Broken Social Scene, Japandroids, or Mew, this one’s gonna hit you right in the feels.
Released via the ever-cool indie label Tiny Engines, We Will Collide is the second taste of the band’s upcoming sophomore album (dropping this fall), and it’s a total headrush. Dreamy, fuzz-soaked guitars, soaring melodies, and just the right amount of grit make this track a perfect companion for late-night drives or getting lost in your headphones on a solo walk.
There’s an undeniable ‘90s shoegaze glow here — that warm, slightly warped wall of sound that makes everything feel like a memory you’re just barely hanging onto. But don’t let the sweetness fool you. Lurking underneath those poppy hooks is a subtle sense of unrest — like a sugar high with a shadow.
TAPE TRASH aren’t new to the game. They’ve been making music together since their teen years, channeling the energy of the bands that made them fall in love with music in the first place. Their 2020 debut EP turned heads internationally (Clash Magazine and The Line of Best Fit were early fans), and their 2023 debut album had Norway buzzing, landing them five tracks on national radio and a spot as one of the country’s most exciting new acts.
If “Since 94” lit the fuse, We Will Collide is the slow-motion explosion — hazy, beautiful, and just a little bit dangerous.
Keep your ears open — TAPE TRASH’s next album drops this fall. And if this single’s anything to go by, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.
