Leeds-based sonic rebel Hang Linton is back with a brand new single, and it slaps. Titled BADBADBUTGOOD, the track is out now via Zen F.C., the tastemaking label run by the mighty Yard Act.

So what’s the deal with this one? Imagine a ragga riddim, surf rock, and UK jazz all getting thrown into a blender, then someone shouting “NO RULES!” and hitting purée. That’s the vibe.

BADBADBUTGOOD is wild, gritty, sweaty, euphoric—and according to Hang, it’s “an anthem for the overworked and overlooked—about breaking free, causing good trouble, and finding purpose in chaos.” Think The Specials having a chaotic dance-off with Gorillaz in the middle of a protest march. Oh, and there’s sax—courtesy of Nick Richards from Nubiyan Twist—which adds that spicy, jazzy kick.

If you’re new to Hang Linton, let’s catch you up: their sound blends avant-funk, dance-punk, and breakbeat into something raw, riotous, and refreshingly real. Armed with synths, samplers, and the spirit of counterculture, Hang’s music tears through convention with wild-eyed energy.

This is their first release since 2024’s ‘Demonstrations’ EP, which NME called “an ardent and uncompromising take on modern day Britain” (4/5 stars, no less). That release put Hang squarely on the map—and earned them a spot on the NME HOT 100 for 2025 and BBC 6 Music’s “Hot Tip” list. Not bad, eh?

James Smith from Yard Act summed it up best: “I caught Hang playing at the Brudenell on a Sunday afternoon. He was singing a tune denouncing colonialism whilst also operating a sock puppet. I was instantly smitten.” Honestly, same.

Hang’s been sharing stages with the likes of Yard Act, Kimya Dawson, and just wrapped up a UK tour with Benefits. Next up? A string of festival dates this summer—scroll down for those.

BADBADBUTGOOD is just the beginning. A second single, Broke, is coming later this year, also via Zen F.C. So if you’re not already tuned in to Hang Linton’s frequency, now’s the time to jump on board.
