The Youth Play have officially dropped their brand new EP ‘someday, forever’—a striking collection of songs that feels both deeply personal and universally urgent. The release features new tracks Straight Line and the title cut Someday, Forever.

The band are already attracting heavy praise from across the music world:

  • “It’s got this early Interpol feel to it” — Matt Wilkinson, Apple Music
  • “If you’re a fan of Fontaines D.C., Interpol, The Cure, Slowdive, you’re gonna love them” — BBC 6 Music, Introducing Mixtape
  • “Blending the urgency of Fontaines D.C. with the melodic effervescence of Wet Leg” — CLASH
  • “Excellent stuff” — John Kennedy, Radio X

Fronted by Mexican-born, London-based Diego Bracho, The Youth Play stand out as much for their story as for their music. Raised in Mexico City on Latin pop and the sweeping sounds of bands like The National and Interpol, Diego initially pursued a career in environmental science, working in a Barcelona lab developing bioplastics from food waste. But frustrated by the slow pace of change in a profit-driven world, he turned to music as a more direct, impactful way to inspire action.

That spirit of resistance and reinvention runs deep through someday, forever. The EP’s lyrics wrestle with themes of migration, climate change, injustice, and mental health, while still searching for moments of joy and hope amidst despair. On opener Maybe This Is All For Us, Diego writes of “the deep blossom of our discontent,” capturing the weight of living under constant uncertainty as a migrant musician in the UK, facing the looming threat of deportation when his visa expires in November. Yet the closing track, Last Day On Earth, refuses to sink into despair, offering instead a reminder that even in the darkest times, there’s still life worth celebrating.

Even though the EP explores very dark themes the overall statement is one of hope and about finding true meaning in the things we do,” Diego explains. “We are living in scary times—wars, environmental disasters, housing crisis, political crisis. One must recognise these problems, get involved in any meaningful ways possible, and then find ways to carry on living their life with joy.”

With ‘someday, forever,’ The Youth Play prove they’re not just another guitar band on the rise—they’re a band that truly matters.
