Chicago’s dreampop quintet Snowcuffs are back with a shimmering new single and video, Burst. It’s the first taste of their upcoming EP ‘Sweet Gravity,’ set to arrive March 5th, 2026.
Following their 2025 debut ‘Sink Down,’ this new batch of moody, textured tracks finds Snowcuffs refining their dreamy, layered sound. The EP was carefully engineered by Sanford Parker at Hypercube Studios (Yob, eyehategod, Darkthrone), mixed by Robert Cheek (Band of Horses, Tycho, Grandaddy), and mastered by Chris Goosman at Baseline Audio Labs.
On Burst, the band dives into the overwhelming push-and-pull of modern life:
“The song is about the struggle of trying to be everything at once, and what happens when inaction, ambivalence, and self-doubt slowly erode your options in life. It’s inspired by the fig tree in Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, where each fig represents a possible future—and the tragedy of wanting all of them at once.”
The track’s hypnotic swirl of dueling guitars, synths, and entrancing vocals perfectly mirrors that tension. Directed by Dave Rentauskas, the new video is a visual trip worth taking.
Snowcuffs—formed in late 2022 from members of Lightfoils and Astrobrite—craft lush, multi-layered soundscapes that drift between hazy nostalgia and fuzz-driven intensity. Think Alvvays, Beach House, and Mazzy Star vibes, but with their own gripping, emotional twist. Their debut EP ‘Sink Down’ earned praise for its shimmering textures and memorable hooks, and they’ve shared stages with acts like Cold Gawd, Seashine, and Cigarettes for Breakfast, including a standout set at Kalamashoegazer, the nation’s longest-running shoegaze festival.
With ‘Sweet Gravity,’ Snowcuffs push their sound further, balancing delicate, introspective melodies with powerful, expansive arrangements—dreampop with both heart and momentum.
