If you grew up losing your mind to ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game,’ buckle up — because Anamanaguchi just came back to the universe and they brought everything.

The New York four-piece (Peter Berkman, Ary Warnaar, James DeVito, and Luke Silas) have digitally dropped the Scott Pilgrim EX (Original Soundtrack) — a genuinely staggering 71-track score for Tribute Games’ brand new action-adventure Scott Pilgrim EX. A physical edition lands August 7th, 2026 via Polyvinyl Record Co., and yes, you’re going to want the vinyl.
The game itself is a big deal — it features a brand-new storyline co-written by Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, made in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences. And the soundtrack? Recorded at Valve Studios in Dallas with producer Casey di Iorio (whose credits include Andre 3000, Slayer, and Marvel Studios), it’s Anamanaguchi doing what Anamanaguchi does best — smashing together their chiptune 8-bit DNA with fuzzed-out garage rock and somehow making it all feel inevitable.

The lead single United By Fate features in the game’s launch trailer and it absolutely rips. Go watch it.

Four Worlds, One Massive Soundtrack

The OST is split into four thematic sections that map to the game’s structure: Toronto (your normal, beautiful, slightly chaotic world), and then three supernatural threats — Vegans, Demons, and Robots. Each has its own sonic identity, and the band didn’t hold back on genre-hopping. In their own words:

“We’ve learned a lot since recording the 2010 OST in our basement. The hypest part of working with Casey was being able to change the recording methods on a dime, since we had to flex so many different styles on this one — thrash, surf, reggae, emo, boss music, etc.
Thrash. Surf. Reggae. Emo. Boss music. In a Scott Pilgrim game. This is not a drill.

The Origin Story You Need to Know

relationship with the Scott Pilgrim universe isn’t a random licensing deal — it’s basically part of the band’s origin myth. After making waves in the early internet chiptune scene (we’re talking literally programming music onto Nintendo cartridges), they scored the original Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game back in 2010 — a soundtrack that became genuinely legendary and helped them crowdfund their debut album, Endless Fantasy, in 2013.
Since then: a Hatsune Miku collab that went viral on Fortnite, the Netflix anime series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off in 2023, and their acclaimed 2025 LP Anyway — produced by Grammy-winner Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, MGMT, Sleater-Kinney) — which earned them career-best praise from NPR, Pitchfork, Bandcamp Daily, and more.

What’s wild is how this latest soundtrack came together. Most of it was written on a tour bus, using software designed for older gaming systems. No fancy studio setup — just the band, minimal gear, and a deep love for tracker-based composition. In an era where every producer has access to limitless modern DAWs, Anamanaguchi are out here actively preserving a dying art form. That’s not just cool, it’s kind of heroic.

Why This Matters Beyond the Nostalgia Hit

Look, the nostalgia factor here is real and there’s nothing wrong with that. But what Anamanaguchi are doing is more than fan service. They’re threading a genuine artistic throughline — from basement chiptune to Netflix anime to packed-out tours to a 71-song opus — while keeping the energy raw, playful, and completely their own.

Whether you’re a day-one fan who had the 2010 game soundtrack on loop, or you’re just now discovering the joyful chaos of cloud rock and lofi electronic indie, this soundtrack is a statement. The Scott Pilgrim universe keeps expanding, and Anamanaguchi keep growing with it.
