If you’ve been sleeping on Sun Spots, Pacific Northwest’s finest purveyors of busted-amp bliss, consider this your wake-up call — because ’Dog is Calling’ and it absolutely will not leave a voicemail.

The Seattle-area alt-rockers dropped their second EP via indie label Den Tapes, and if the lead single Rocket is any indication, your weekend plans just got a whole lot louder. Go stream it now. We’ll wait.

Four tracks. Zero filler. Maximum crunch.

‘Dog is Calling’ is a tight, punchy collection of songs that somehow manage to be both a love letter to classic grunge and an undeniably hooky pop record. Think Big Muff pedal meets earworm melodies — the kind of thing that gets stuck in your head while also making you want to absolutely destroy a living room.

The band’s pedigree runs deep in the PNW underground. Members have put in time with Criminal Code, Nudes, and Bricklayer — essential names in Pacific Northwest punk and hardcore circles — and it shows. Sun Spots write pop songs for hardcore kids, or hardcore songs for pop kids, depending on where you’re standing. Either way, you’re going to feel it.
The EP was engineered and mixed in Seattle by Cameron Heck and mastered by Greg Obis, whose resume includes work with MJ Lenderman, Wishy, and Tim Heidecker. Safe to say, this thing sounds massive.
