Singapore noise pop trio Gnaw is making their entrance, and they’re not exactly tiptoeing in. The three-piece has announced their debut EP, ‘Inside a Machine That’s Glistening’, dropping April 10th — and it’s already up for pre-order on Bandcamp. Four tracks. Heavy-hitting. The kind of record that pairs power pop immediacy with distorted guitars and just enough electronic abrasion to keep things deliciously unsettling.
Lead single Star is your first taste, and it’s a proper introduction to Gnaw’s serrated sound. Explosive, grunge-influenced riffs set an agile-yet-aggressive stage for vocalist Tara Tan‘s musings on stardom and idolatry — a song wrestling with self-reckoning somewhere between doubt and desire. The band also self-directed the video, which you can watch below.
Across ‘Inside a Machine That’s Glistening’, Gnaw moves fluidly between ’90s alt-rock romanticism, playful digital noise, and hypergaze-influenced joy rushes — wailing guitars, propulsive rhythms, and dreamy vocals dripping with sincerity. There’s a darkness here, but it never overstays its welcome. It glows amidst the grit, touching on ambition, admiration, internal doubt, and self-destruction in a way that feels manic, mechanical, and ultimately cathartic. Big questions, big sounds.
