The rock duo’s latest is a singsong self-roast — and it absolutely slaps.
Girl Tones are back and they’re pointing the finger squarely at themselves. The sister duo — Kenzie on guitar, Laila on drums — dropped their new single Stubborn Mouth via Parallel Vision and Big Loud Rock, and it’s exactly what you’d expect from two classically trained musicians who traded cellos and pianos for fuzz and feedback: catchy, clever, and just a little bit dangerous.
The band put it plainly: “This song is a vulnerable reflection on being headstrong and how it can ultimately deteriorate your own well-being and others around you.” But don’t let the self-awareness fool you — Stubborn Mouth doesn’t wallow. It taunts. It grins. It rocks.
Take a Bite
The single comes with an official video directed by Austin Dickerson. Shot inside the wood-paneled walls of a gloriously retro house, Girl Tones look completely at home — right up until someone takes a bite of the forbidden fruit. As one does.

Who Are Girl Tones?
If Rolling Stone calling them “proudly imperfect” in the best possible White Stripes-adjacent way doesn’t sell you, maybe this will: their debut releases were produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant, they’ve toured the globe with the man’s own band, and they’ve already graced the stages of Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees, and Austin City Limits. Earlier this year, their single Volcano landed them on Amazon Music’s Artists to Watch in 2026 list alongside Fcukers, NewDad, Folk Bitch Trio, and more buzzy names.
A debut album is on the horizon. More music and dates are coming. Girl Tones are just getting started.
