Boston DIY four-piece Gollylagging are back with Jackknife, a new single out now that digs into the messy emotional aftermath of a friendship falling apart — and they’ve brought a sun-drenched outdoor video along with it.

Making Peace With the End

Over sharp, layered guitar riffs and melancholic vocals, Gollylagging do what they do best: lean into the uncomfortable stuff with total honesty. Vocalist and guitarist Jake Regulbuto puts it plainly: ‘Jackknife’ is about the aftermath of friendship fallouts. You can want the best for people but know your relationship to them can’t be the same as it used to be.”

It’s a lighter, more melodic side of the band compared to earlier scorchers — hooky chorus, masterful guitar work, the kind of track that hits harder the more times you play it.

Six Hours, Ten Revisions, One Great Song

Getting Jackknife right was no quick job. Drummer Andrew Garas breaks it down: “This one was a tough one to get right. We recorded everything for it in a short six hours and really had to put in a lot of time re-recording things and revising the mix to get it how we wanted it to sound. Our producer, Rowan, helped tremendously and put up with us asking for 10+ revisions on it.”

That kind of dedication to the craft shows. Nothing here feels accidental.

Watch: The Video

The official video — directed and edited by bassist Joey Lorant — keeps things refreshingly low-key: the band playing outside in a local park, goofing around, soaking up the moment. Lorant explains: I tried to capture how it feels for us to play the song live, fun and light, featuring us goofing around and strumming along to the track in our neighbourhood park.”

It fits the song perfectly. No bells, no whistles, just four mates and some guitars in the sunshine.

Who Are Gollylagging?

Made up of Jake Regulbuto (vocals, guitar), Jules Skiffington (guitar), Andrew Garas (drums) and Joey Lorant (bass), Gollylagging have been cutting their teeth across Boston and the wider New England scene for the last several years. They’ve put out a split EP ‘fauna’ in 2023 with going222jail and Dino Gala, followed by ‘Dry Rot’ in 2024, and a run of strong singles since. Earlier this year, Bronco had Chasing Sundays calling it an absolute scorcher — high praise, and well earned.

Their sound blends shoegaze, bedroom pop, punk and alt-country into something that feels genuinely fresh. Think Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Alex G — but played with their own colour. Indie rock in 2026 as it’s meant to be.
