Made Under the Catalonian Sun
Originally released in August 2005, ‘Love Kraft’ was the band’s seventh album and their third — and final — release with Epic Records. To escape Cardiff’s drizzle, the Furries headed to Figueres, Catalunya, Salvador Dalí’s hometown, where they recorded in sweltering heat, collected found sounds, and reunited with Mario Caldato Jr., the Beastie Boys producer who also mixed their previous album ‘Phantom Power’.
The journey didn’t stop there. The band then moved on to Rio de Janeiro to mix the album, where four members started taking Portuguese lessons while experimenting on Abbey Road’s legendary 1968-built EMI TG12345 mixing desk. It’s an album born of travel, heat, and endless curiosity.
Rarities and Unheard Tracks
Among the 23 bonus tracks on the extra disc, ‘Kiss Me With Apocalypse,’ fans can expect:
- The ELO-inspired stomp of Rock ’N’ Roll Flu
- The deep-bass sketch Palo Alto
- The ghostly textures of Bedw Arian
- The spaced-out jam Cae Marw
The Album’s Legacy
Despite yielding just one official single — the shimmering Lazer Beam — ‘Love Kraft’ has endured as a fan favourite. The band followed the release with a huge run of live shows, including stadium dates supporting Oasis, a coast-to-coast U.S. tour with Caribou, and festival stops from Istanbul to Japan.
As the first SFA album recorded to hard disk instead of tape, it pushed the band into new territory, full of playful experimentation: splashes from pool dives, pool-table clacks, and metallic percussion lifted from mysterious objects in rented rooms. It’s still one of their most immersive records.
