Toronto punk artist ThxSoMch has taken his latest single Unhinged to a whole new level—literally covering an art gallery in wild black splatter paint under strobe lights. Teaming up with contemporary artist Jack Carden, the track’s chaotic energy comes alive in the dark, flashy new video, out now.
Unhinged almost didn’t exist. Born from a voice recording ThxSoMch made back in 2023, the idea kept resurfacing until he finally decided to record it while working on his upcoming album. “I didn’t think much of it and just posted it,” he admits. “To my surprise, it became a fan favourite.” Finished after the album was technically done, the track became a late but necessary addition to his debut full-length.
That debut record—‘The Sound of You Laughing’—is out August 29 via Atlantic Records and already feels like one of the most anticipated punk releases of the year. Produced by grayskies (d4vd, Wisp) and mixed by Mike Crossey (Arctic Monkeys, The 1975), the album channels raw emotion, 90s alt-rock nostalgia, and the restless energy of someone trying to turn chaos into clarity.
The process of making it was anything but ordinary. ThxSoMch spent seven months in Brazil, completely cut off from his usual world. “No phone, no English, no sense of time—just a flow state,” he recalls. “Creating this was like a cigarette after a long craving. I hope it can be that for someone else too—a fix, a release, something to hold onto when everything else slips.”
The result? A record that’s unrestrained, cathartic, and brimming with jagged honesty. “It isn’t a cure—it’s a distraction,” he says. “A pause. A breath between breakdowns. You can’t laugh forever. You laugh until you choke. And then it’s not so funny anymore.”
Fans already got a taste with the single Sound of You Laughing, which Wonderland Magazine praised as a “sad boi banger with snappy, emotive vocals and heady, guitar-led instrumentation.” It follows his viral 2022 breakthrough SPIT IN MY FACE!—a track that’s racked up over 672 million streams on Spotify and even landed on the Billboard Hot 100.
Now with over a billion career streams, three tracks passing the 100M mark, and a loyal fanbase that’s grown from Rolling Loud sets to international tours, ThxSoMch is stepping into a new chapter.
Watch ThxSoMch and Jack Carden wreak havoc in the Unhinged video now, and don’t miss ‘The Sound of You Laughing’ when it drops August 29. This is just the beginning for one of punk’s most intriguing new voices.
Alongside the album release, he’ll hit the road this fall for a massive North American tour kicking off September 22 in Salt Lake City with support from re6ce. Expect the live show to be just as wild, unpredictable, and intense as the music itself.
