Crashing in from sunny San Diego with a very not-so-sunny sound, Sledges just dropped a moody, immersive video for their latest single Fading, and we’re fully locked in. Blending thick shoegaze textures with alt-metal punch and emo/post-hardcore emotional weight, these four are churning out something special — and heavy.
If you’re into bands like Nothing, Hum, or the fuzzier side of Smashing Pumpkins, you’re going to want to dive into Sledges’ latest EP ‘Losing Pace,’ which came out on May 2. It’s an emotional gut-punch wrapped in gorgeous noise — the perfect soundtrack for feeling all your feelings and screaming into the void (in a good way).
“Sledges fleshes out a sound that sits somewhere between shoegaze and post-hardcore.” – No Echo
“…A thick wall of sound with nice melodies and guitar lines… they’re fully coming to the realization of their art form.” – Destroy//Exist
So, who are Sledges?
Sledges is made up of Philly Gomez (vocals/guitar), Alex Angulo (bass), Julian Romero (guitar), and Mason Haidar (drums). The band first sparked to life in 2020 in Chula Vista, CA during pandemic boredom (as all great chaotic things do). From their debut single Melting Lives, they’ve been steadily grinding — dropping tracks, playing shows, and building a loyal following around SoCal.
Notable past singles include the driving Headwinds (2022) and the intense Disgusting (2023), showing off their evolving sound — both more melodic and heavier than ever.
About the new EP: ‘Losing Pace’
Produced by Mike Kamoo at Earthling Studios, ‘Losing Pace’ features four tracks that balance catchy hooks with emotional weight and that unmistakable shoegaze haze. Philly Gomez wrote the record during a rough personal stretch — the kind of period when life keeps piling up and you start to crack. You can hear it in the lyrics, but also in the push and pull of the songs themselves.
The band wasn’t afraid to get experimental either: layering acoustic guitars, drum samples, and even channeling some My Bloody Valentine energy on the leads. The result? A bold, dynamic, super repeatable EP.

And good news — they’ve just signed with Quiet Panic, and their upcoming 12” vinyl (dropping June) will include all four ‘Losing Pace’ tracks plus two brand-new songs. Vinyl lovers, this one’s a must-grab.
