New single out now via their own label, Pie & Mash

London’s indie underdogs World News are back and making noise with their first single of the year, Don’t Want To Know—a bittersweet, jangly slice of post-punk perfection that’s out now on their own DIY label, Pie & Mash.

Recorded at the legendary RAK Studios and produced by Tommy Bosustow (yes, the same one who’s worked with Muse and Taylor Swift), this one’s a moody, melodic gut-punch. Think chiming guitars, vintage indie hooks, and a brooding vocal performance from frontman Alex Evans, who pulls you right into the depths of disillusionment and emotional shut-down. “I think when I wrote it, I was definitely in a depressive episode,” Evans shares. And you feel it.

With a sound that throws back to the golden age of college radio, World News have built a signature style blending post-punk angst, shoegaze textures, and indie rock swagger. If The Smiths and The Clash had a lovechild raised on Dire Straits and emotional baggage, it might sound something like this.

2024 was a big one for the band—two EPs (‘Escape’ and ‘Mindsnap’), a debut US appearance at The New Colossus Festival in NYC, and nods from Stereogum and The Fader as artists to watch. Not too shabby for a band who once started out gigging under the name Tinman—until a scheduling mishap confused them with an Austrian DJ.

Fast forward through a chance meeting at Pizza Express (where all good things begin), and World News was born. They’ve been steadily building their reputation through relentless gigging, buzzy singles, and a no-frills DIY approach that keeps everything honest and raw.

And they’re not slowing down. A European tour is now on the books with dates in Paris, Brixton, Barcelona, Bilbao, and Madrid. Grab your tickets while you can.

A Little Backstory for the Uninitiated

World News came out of the chaos of 2020, born in a windowless London room during lockdown. Brothers Alex and Rory Evans had been chasing the indie dream since their Brighton days, and when the pandemic paused everything, they went into overdrive. Their debut EP ‘Job and Money’ was written in the thick of it—dark, introspective, and painfully honest. Then came standout singles like Wrapped in Gold and The Tinman, which set the tone for the band’s blend of dreamy melancholy and gritty realism.

They added guitarist Jack Tollman in 2024, sharpened their sound, and got even more adventurous. While Escape expanded on their shimmering, jangly core, Mindsnap dug into deeper, gloomier waters—a perfect balance of light and shadow.

With their debut album on the horizon, 2025 is already shaping up to be their biggest year yet.
