Immersion return with electrifying new album ‘WTF??’

Out September 26 on ~swim

Immersion—the long-running electronic duo of Colin Newman (Wire) and Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact)—are back with a brand new album titled ‘WTF??,’ landing September 26 via their own label, ~swim. And yes, that title pretty much sums it up.

Kicking off this new chapter, the duo just dropped the first single Use It Don’t Lose It, alongside a striking DIY video created with Ben Newman. It’s a pulsing, chant-heavy anthem that feels part mantra, part rallying cry, with the band explaining: “The words are so direct they need no explanation. Anyone could join in with the chanting!”

Watch the video now on YouTube, or stream the track wherever you like your sounds— Spotify or Apple Music, the usual suspects.

If you’ve been following Newman and Spigel’s recent creative adventures, you’ll know Immersion’s been deep in their collaborative ‘Nanocluster’ projects. But after a string of UK and US dates injected some much-needed urgency, the duo pivoted back to their core project with fresh fire. That energy crackles across ‘WTF??,’ a collection of eight tracks—half instrumental, half vocal—that channels the confusion, resistance, and faint glimmers of hope in our current climate.

As the press note puts it: “What the fck?? What the fcking fck??”*—it’s not just an album title, it’s the spirit of the times. The music doesn’t just reflect the chaos—it responds to it, wraps around it, and wrestles it into something raw, rhythmic, and beautifully human.

Expect minimalist grooves, immersive soundscapes, taut melodic threads, and lyrics that slice through the noise. If ‘Nanocluster’ was about collaboration, ‘WTF??’ is a gut reaction to the now.
