Toronto punk trio Among Legends are back and they’re not easing into it. H/A/C/K, the lead single off their upcoming full-length ‘Lose My Grip’ (due July 10, 2026), landed May 1st like a sucker punch you kind of saw coming but still didn’t dodge in time. Fast, punchy, and carrying the kind of wear-and-tear energy that only comes from years of late nights and long drives — this one doesn’t mess around.
Produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Matt Gauthier at ARC Recording Studio and This Place Needs A Name, H/A/C/K clocks in at a tight 1:45 and wastes none of it. There’s a dual vocal tension running through the track that never quite settles — always reaching, always pushing — backed by guitars that lock in and don’t let go. Think the melodic urgency of Bad Religion filtered through the scrappy Ontario punk underground that gave us The Flatliners and Hostage Life. It’s that specific flavour of Canadian punk that tastes like coffee-stained highway miles and fluorescent diner lights somewhere past midnight on the 401.
Among Legends formed in 2016 and did it the slow, honest way — self-released EPs, relentless shows, grinding through the melodic punk underground until it stuck. Their 2022 debut full-length ‘Take Good Care’ (released through Little Rocket Records, Rad Girlfriend Records, and Sounds of Subterrania) turned heads, pulling coverage from BrooklynVegan, Exclaim!, New Noise, and PunkNews, with BrooklynVegan landing on “one ripper after another” as their verdict. Not bad. But that record was actually recorded in 2019 and held up by the pandemic — meaning even at release, the band had already started evolving past it.
That evolution sharpened into the current lineup: Mitchell Buchanan on bass and vocals, Sara Fellin on drums, and guitarist Bennett Rouleau rounding out the trio. Leaner, more focused, and road-tested in the truest sense — not just tight, but lived-in. ‘Lose My Grip’ finds them pushing harder into their sound, willing to let things hit rougher when it counts.
H/A/C/K is the spark. ‘Lose My Grip’ is the flame. We’re inclined to agree.
