Miami’s beloved dark glam architects ASTARI NITE are back with something close to the heart — their brand new EP, ‘Medications In Bloom’, out now on limited edition compact disc and all major digital platforms.
A Title Born in the Waiting Room
The EP’s name comes from a genuinely tender place. Vocalist Mychael Ghost has spent the last four-and-a-half years navigating his mother’s health journey — hospital visits, nurses’ conversations, handfuls of flowers that make him sneeze. One day, a prescription refill notification pinged his phone, and something clicked:
“My mother has not been doing well for quite some time. My life for the past four and a half years consists of doctor visits, chatting with nurses, buying her flowers that make me sneeze, my mind wandering about childhood memories while holding her hand. Nevertheless, whenever her prescription is re-filled, I’m quickly notified. One day I received that reassuring alert and thought to myself, YAY, ‘Medications In Bloom’ again.” — Mychael Ghost
It’s the kind of origin story that reframes everything. Suddenly those themes of validation, self-preservation, romance, glamour and decay hit a little differently. ‘Medications In Bloom’ is an EP about finding the light — wear the brightest lipstick, laugh the loudest, say good morning to strangers. Everyone deserves to be loved. Ghost puts it plainly: “For the most part, I think we were chasing rainbows in the sunlight and then into the dark.”
Dark Glam Done Right
If you’re new to ASTARI NITE, here’s your crash course: formed in Miami in 2013 by Ghost and drummer Illia Tulloch, the band rounded out their lineup with guitarist/producer Howard Melnick and keyboardist/bassist Danny Ae. Their debut, ’Stereo Walz,’ landed on Danse Macabre Records — Bruno Kramm of Das Ich’s label — and almost immediately scored them a direct support slot for Peter Murphy (Bauhaus). The year after that? Leipzig’s Wave-Gotik Treffen. Not a bad start.
Since then they’ve released ‘Midnight Conversations’ (produced by Tom Shear of Assemblage 23, which somehow found its way to Cleopatra Records), plus full-lengths ‘Here Lies’ and ‘Resolution Of Happiness’ on Negative Gain Records. Their 2025 full-length ‘Resolution Of Happiness’ had Post-Punk.com picking up vibes of Clan of Xymox, Placebo, Franz Ferdinand, and the Psychedelic Furs — high praise, and honestly, accurate.
Orkus Magazine summed up their sound pretty well: “A cozy nineties alternative vibe meets sophisticated glam rock to unite with dark wave and synth rock. A certain David Bowie spirit seems to hover over the songs.” We couldn’t say it better.
