Manchester-based rapper and poet Sweets has shared his powerful new single SEIZURE, out now via Soul Kitchen / EMI North.
Written in the aftermath of a life-altering health scare earlier this year, the track blends gut-punch honesty with flashes of irreverence that make Sweets’ style stand apart.
Back in January, while cooking at home, Sweets unexpectedly suffered a seizure, fracturing his skull on the kitchen counter. Diagnosed with a form of epilepsy that had been dormant until now, the incident forced him to confront both the fragility of life and the fight to keep creating.
SEIZURE captures that push-and-pull perfectly — the fear, the frustration, and the stubborn streak of hope. Even after suffering additional seizures (including one mid-recording session), Sweets refused to slow down, getting back in the studio to turn personal hardship into something bigger.
This resilience has fuelled a breakout year. Tipped as one to watch in 2025 by BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 1, Sweets has enjoyed a twelve-week run on the Amazing Radio chart, landed features on BBC 6 Music’s “Huw Are You”, and gained attention from NME, Clash, The Line of Best Fit, DIY, and more.
On stage, his raw intensity has earned him opening slots for Kneecap, Anthony Szmierek (by personal invite), GANS, Everyone You Know, and BBY — with more live dates on the way.

Hailing from Newcastle and now based in Manchester, Sweets first carved his path through words, leaning on poetry before finding his musical voice. His 2023 project ‘Tension Free’ marked an evolution, and now, with his forthcoming EP ‘GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT!,’ he’s sharper, bolder, and unafraid to strip things back.
The EP documents a life of overcoming — ADHD diagnoses, expulsions, trauma, near hearing loss, and now epilepsy — but there’s no self-pity here. Instead, Sweets spins resilience into rhythm, channeling influences like Bakar, Easy Life, Frank Ocean, The Neptunes, and Deki Alem into his most infectious, hook-laden work yet.
