‘Selling A Vibe’ out January 9 via Play It Again Sam
New single & video Summer Seizures out now
The Cribs are back. After five years away, the Jarman brothers return with ‘Selling A Vibe,’ their brand-new album set for release on January 9 via Play It Again Sam. Alongside the announcement comes the first taste of the record — the shimmering new single Summer Seizures — complete with a 16mm-shot video that strips things back to the essentials: just the band, the song, and the moment.
This album marks a new chapter for The Cribs — one rooted in reconnection. After two decades of relentless touring and recording, the trio found themselves scattered across three time zones and stuck in the release-tour-repeat cycle. So, they pressed pause. They spent a summer together without writing a note, just rebuilding as brothers first, bandmates second. That reset became the heart of ‘Selling A Vibe’.
“It’s a song about love, tragedy, and learning to live with yourself,” says Ryan Jarman about Summer Seizures. “All the major events in my life seem to have happened in the summer, so when I felt it coming around again, I wanted to mark the time and take stock.”
On the production side, the band teamed up with Patrick Wimberly (Solange, MGMT, Lil Yachty), embracing a slower, more intentional recording process. For The Cribs, this wasn’t about chasing nostalgia — it was about breaking the bottle entirely and seeing what they could build anew.
Bassist Gary Jarman sums it up: “Our albums have become more and more open over time. These songs feel deeply personal, and that can be nerve-wracking. We’re not chasing labels like ‘indie rock’ or ‘punk’ anymore — we just hope people connect with the songs for what they are.”
And with a five-year gap behind them, connection feels like the point.
Watch & Listen
The video, directed by longtime friend Andy Knowles, captures the band in their purest form — shot on 16mm film for a raw, spontaneous feel. “No gimmicks, no gloss,” Ryan explains. “We just wanted to present ourselves as we are.”
