Third Man Records is opening the vault — not for records this time, but for knowledge.
The iconic Nashville/Detroit indie powerhouse has announced the Third Man Release Lab, a free, two-part behind-the-scenes online series diving deep into the creative and logistical machinery behind how Third Man actually puts out records. Whether you’re an artist, an indie label nerd, or just someone who’s always wondered what goes into a globally coordinated album drop — this one’s for you.
What’s in the Lab?
Part 1 premieres Monday, June 8 at 12 PM CT and gets into the nitty-gritty of distribution, direct-to-fan communication, mail order, and the kind of unconventional release strategies that have made Third Man one of the most distinctive labels on the planet.
Part 2 follows on Tuesday, June 9 at 12 PM CT (premiere link sent to subscribers) and uses Jack White’s GRAMMY® Award-nominated 2024 album ‘No Name’ as a real-world case study — a step-by-step breakdown of what a globally successful record launch actually looks like from the inside out.
Why This Matters
Third Man has always done things differently — cryptic drops, exclusive vinyl variants, surprise announcements — and now they’re pulling back the curtain on the method behind the magic. For indie artists and label folks especially, getting a peek into how TMR thinks about releases is genuinely rare and valuable stuff.
An exclusive trailer is streaming now over at the Official Third Man Records YouTube channel, and registration is open at thirdmanreleaselab.com.
