Portrayal of Guilt drop ‘Object of Pain’ / ‘Death From Above’ singles + videos

Portrayal of Guilt
Portrayal of Guilt by Craig Murray

Austin’s most uncompromising heavy trio is back and they’re not easing you in gently. Portrayal of Guilt have dropped a double shot of new music — Object of Pain and Death From Above — along with two new videos that wrap up their ‘…Beginning of the End’ video trilogy, directed in collaboration with Craig Murray. The album itself lands April 24 via Run For Cover Records.

These two singles follow the earlier one-two punch of Object of Pain and Human Terror, and together they paint a pretty wild picture of where the band is headed — pulling from nu-metal, alternative rock, trip hop, dark ambient, and a whole grab-bag of other influences that really shouldn’t work together but absolutely do.

A Band That Refuses to Stand Still

If you’re new to Portrayal of Guilt, here’s the quick version: they arrived swinging with their debut ‘Let Pain Be Your Guide’, a ferocious collision of nihilistic hardcore, black metal, and classic screamo. Then came ‘We Are Always Alone’ and ‘CHRISTF*CKER’ in 2021 — the real breakout moment — where they started dissolving genre boundaries entirely, folding in industrial, post-metal, sludge, and post-hardcore like it was nothing. More recent EPs pushed even further into classical territory (‘Devil Music’) and full-on EBM/goth (‘CHRISTF*CKER II’).

In short: they do what they want, and it keeps getting more interesting.

‘…Beginning of the End’ is their fourth studio album in eight years and their third with Run For Cover. It was recorded and mixed by Phillip Odom between March and June 2025, with mastering by Will Yip. It sounds like a band who has spent a decade haunting the darkest corners of heavy music and has finally decided to document everything they found there.
