Experimental, riot grrrl-influenced post-punk/shoegaze/dreamy psych alchemists Karate, Guns & Tanning have shared their latest single and video for Artifacts. It’s the second official single lifted from their debut album, ‘Concrete Beach’ (out 3/26, Bandcamp + vinyl pre-order). Artifacts is the most pop-forward track yet from the fast-rising Louisville/Indianapolis-based LGBTQIA-inclusive outfit, and comes complete with an official visual from LA’s avant-garde, surrealist motion designer Andrew Knives. In fact, KG&T was so blown away by the thrilling, mind-bending visuals he initially delivered for Fire and Graffiti Children that they are now announcing an official creative partnership with Knives to create visuals for every song on ‘Concrete Beach’. The end result will be an animated album component that we’ll be trickling out track by track next month in the lead-up to its releaseutilizing Knives’ innovative, cutting-edge motion design and production techniques.

Roaring to life with pounding, Bonham-sized drums and mesmerizing, otherworldly electronic synth textures, Artifacts was meant to evoke the unsettling feeling of being trapped by something not quite tangible. Meanwhile, similarly hypnotic, fuzzed-out basslines and haunting vocals maneuver around intricate riffs, creating an electrifying, ghostly atmosphere unto itself.

More about Karate, Guns & Tanning

Named after a sign above a strip mall in rural Indiana, Karate, Guns & Tanning is the culmination of a 15-year collaboration between two intuitive experimental songwriting witches, Valerie Green (Indianapolis) and Paige Shedletsky (Louisville), who initially met in Colorado in 2005 while waitressing together at a creepy diner fit for a David Lynch set. Now rounded out by the Indianapolis-based guitarist Joy Caroline Mills and drummer Daniel Guajardo, the fierce energy is palpable on the bands’ stand-out debut, ‘Concrete Beach’.
