Tribe Friday have released their ‘Chasing Pictures’ EP, which is a culmination of a 12-month-period that has seen them battle out of the backcountry of Sweden’s northern woodlands. The collection follows the 2019 ‘Trying Your Luck’ EP and showcases the band’s stylistic development with their heaviest offering yet (Freaky) and the tenderest cut they’ve ever committed to tape (If I Were You) bookending the collection. Singer and songwriter, Noah Deutschmann explains how the band adapted their approach for the ‘Chasing Pictures’ sessions. “We’ve been a lot more daring with what we put on tape. I produce and engineer all of our records, so as I’m picking up new skills and tricks it frees us up to fully explore our sound without self-imposed limitations or genre borders. I mean, of course, it’s all rock music because that’s what we vibe with, but it’s a pretty mixed palette nevertheless.”

He continues by discussing the lyrics, which tend to lead into more melancholy territory than previous releases, “all the tracks certainly have a bit of a darker feel compared to the ‘Trying Your Luck’ EP. There’s a lot of self-detriment and stuff going on in there. It’s been a rough year, man.”

Wrapped up in a tight 10-minute package ‘Chasing Pictures’ tears through more genres and emotions than, perhaps, than perhaps their entire previous back catalog combined. The fuzz-laden garage-rock of Freaky unravels an awkward late-night tryst with an insistent older woman, while Talk So Loud is a sneering frenetic cut that plays off post-relationship apathy and Choreograph tackles social detachment against a bouncing indie-pop backing. The glistening, synth-forward EP closer, If I Were You is a sharp example of the sonic explorations that Tribe Friday have been undertaking recently. While debut EP, ‘Trying Your Luck,’ was packed to the gills with dancefloor-filling , jangly, indie pop, ‘Chasing Pictures’ builds on those hooks but broadens their emotional palate to deliver something deeper, more touching, and more fun than ever.

Tribe Friday recently returned from a short run of dates in Germany, which came on the back of tearing the everloving bejesus out of Bardot Hollywood for a GRAMMY Week special edition of School Night, and Mercury Lounge for their first-ever headline slot in NYC.

Tribe Friday are currently shooting a video for If I Were You with Swedish actor Charlie Petersson. Fans should keep an eye out for that as well as fall German tour dates, which the band are hoping to be able to share shortly.
