LA’s own Jawdropped is making one hell of a first impression—and they’re doing it loud. The rock’n’roll/power pop trio (Roman Zangari, Kyra Morling, Sean Edwards) just dropped Outside, the final single from their debut EP ‘Just Fantasy,’ out now via Angel Tapes (Fire Talk Records’ up-and-coming artists imprint).
Outside is a punchy, arms-around-your-friends kind of anthem—equal parts raw, catchy, and heartfelt. It’s got this immediate riff that pulls you in fast, then opens into a full-throttle duet from Zangari and Morling. “A little on the outside always / A little on the edge of in-between,” they sing, tugging at that universal outsider feeling we’ve all nursed over late-night drinks. According to the band, the track is about finding solace in love when the rest of the world feels a little out of reach. Big feelings. Bigger hooks.
And the video? A lo-fi love letter to LA. Directed by Peter Lombardo, the Outside video cuts between candid outdoor hangs and glimpses into studio time, sprinkled with live show energy. It’s fuzzy, it’s nostalgic, and it feels like your favorite weekend memory that you didn’t film—but they did.
So What Is ‘Just Fantasy’?
Let’s break it down. ‘Just Fantasy’ is five tracks of no-frills, heart-on-sleeve rock made for being late to your shift, crushing hard on someone who also likes Dinosaur Jr., or wondering if you should move to New York (you won’t, but it’s fun to think about). It’s garagey and grungy but with a wink—like it knows it’s not saving the world, but it is making your Tuesday night better.
Jawdropped may be new on the scene (they formed less than a year ago), but they’ve already cracked the code on catchy, clever songwriting. Think fuzzy guitars, intertwined vocals, and lyrics that feel like they were overheard at Zebulon or Permanent Records. Stereogum gets it—they named Fantasy one of their 5 Best Songs of the Week, and called Jawdropped out as a band we all need to be paying attention to. Hard agree.
Tracks like Fantasy and Skully blend sharp observation with self-deprecating charm. One moment you’re hearing about Venmo money from dad (“anything that’ll keep you stable!”), the next it’s “vitamin deficiency, lack of sleep, and ketamine.” It’s the LA hustle with a grin and an eye-roll—and somehow, it totally works.
