If you’ve been fiending for something fresh and fearless, Revival Season is back to scratch that sonic itch. The duo—producer Jonah Swilley (yeah, the guy from Mattiel and Night Beats) and rapper Brandon ‘Bez’ Evans—just dropped a slinky new single Slick Rick with an eye-popping video by Andrew Knives. And here’s the kicker: their new mixtape ‘Formless’ lands this Friday, May 23 via Heavenly Recordings.

Slick Rick glides in like it owns the room. Swilley’s bassline slithers under Bez’s smooth yet sly verses, all confidence and cool—think post-last-call pep talk meets a hat-tip to one of hip-hop’s true legends. It’s an homage, but it hits with a swagger that’s entirely their own.

“‘Slick Rick’ came together fluidly,” they shared. “A quick trip into the studio and we came out with this homage to a pillar in rap storytelling.”

Catch the video now—trust us, it’s a ride.

And just like that, Revival Season are back in the groove. If 8’3 got your attention, Formless is about to hold it hostage. Clocking in at five tracks, the mixtape dives deep into busted-up garage rock, warped drum breaks, and gnarly funk. Revival Season don’t play by the rules—hell, they’re not even on the same field.

Need some credentials? Their album ‘Golden Age Of Self Snitching’ was hyped as “remarkably accessible” and “like almost nothing else from 2024” by Consequence (who put it at #9 on their Best Rap Albums of the year list). Tracks like Barry White even made their way into the 200 Best Songs of the Year. Not bad for a group that’s only been on the scene since 2022.

They’ve also dropped some weighty standalone tracks, including the politically-charged White House Black and the wildly vibey Dim Sum.

Call it what you want—G-funk reimagined for Georgia, or just straight-up raw energy—Revival Season bring grit and groove in equal measure. Bez and Swilley are a duo with serious chemistry: glitchy, grimy beats and laser-sharp verses built for speakers and subwoofers alike.

Catch them live at Pickathon in Oregon, July 31 – Aug 3, with more U.S. dates coming soon.
