Valentine’s Day? Hard pass. 💔
Once again, the Force Field family has your back with ‘Anti-V-Day Mixtape, Vol. XII,’ their annual love-is-a-battlefield soundtrack designed to get you through February 14 without losing your mind (or your dignity).
They started this series back in 2015 as a survival tactic—something to counteract the candy hearts, forced romance, and aggressively cheerful playlists flooding the internet. Every year since, we’ve asked artists we work with to dig deep into their personal archives and send us their most devastating, cathartic, beautifully bruised breakup songs. And every year, they absolutely deliver.
Twelve volumes in, it’s still wild how little overlap there’s been. Seriously—almost no repeats across more than a decade of mixes (fact-check us if you must). That said, patterns do emerge. Last year they had an accidental double-dip into Hüsker Dü. This year? Things got spooky. Two different contributors each landed on songs by Tom Petty, Cat Power, The Cure, Lucinda Williams, and—somehow—Strawberry Switchblade. No repeated tracks, just an eerie collective alignment toward the same emotional orbits.
The result is a mix that drifts between quiet devastation, melodramatic fog, clenched-teeth defiance, and moments of hard-won clarity. Put it on, stare out a rainy window, take a long walk, or just let it play while you dramatically rethink your life choices.
