If you’ve ever wondered what the early days of Super Furry Animals sounded like before they became the genre-defying, psychedelic maestros we know today, now’s your chance. The band has announced ‘Precreation Percolation,’ a sprawling compilation of their earliest recordings, out May 1, 2026, on vinyl, CD, and digital.

Early Rarities Resurface
At the heart of the release is the newly unearthed track Pocket Sam, featuring none other than acclaimed actor and original SFA singer Rhys Ifans. Recorded at Grassroots Studio in Cardiff back in 1993, the dreamy, space-rock vibes of Pocket Sam give fans a glimpse of the band as they were just forming. Alongside this, the compilation revives their two mid-’90s EPs for vinyl for the first time in 30 years, originally released on the legendary Welsh indie label Ankst.
The bonus disc is a treasure trove for hardcore fans: 22 tracks on CD (31 digital), including unreleased experiments, 2026 Redux mixes, and early demos—offering a full picture of SFA’s pre-Creation Records period. Highlights include AK Serenade, Choking On Your Lust, and the nostalgic Of No Fixed Identity, originally released as a Bandcamp fundraiser for the Save The Severn Estuary campaign in 2022.
Live and In Full Flight
SFA’s live return is just as exciting as the archival release. Their Supacabra 2026 UK and Ireland tour sold out instantly, and they’ve now added extra summer festival dates across Bristol, York, Llangollen, London, Exeter, Dublin, Birmingham, and Salisbury—final tickets available. The band will be celebrating their rich history and energetic live sound with both fans old and new.
The Formative Years
Before Ifans moved on to acting stardom in 1994, SFA were experimenting with synths, psych-rock, and melodic chaos. Their first proper lineup—including Gruff Rhys, Dafydd Ieuan, Huw “Bunf” Bunford, Guto Pryce, and Cian Ciarán—formed the foundation of the band that would later sign to Alan McGee’s Creation Records.
These formative recordings, from the short-lived Ankst EPs to long-form electro experiments, show the embryonic stages of the band’s later classics like God! Show Me Magic and Hangin’ With Howard Marks.
As Gruff Rhys puts it in the liner notes:
“The two-year ‘Precreation Percolation’ was over, and for better or worse, our lives would never be the same again. But we live to tell the tale.”
