Courtney Carmichael and Nikki St. Pierre make up sundayclub, a duo out of Winnipeg, Canada making what they themselves call “dreamy, gut-punch pop.” That’s exactly what Camera Shy delivers. Gliding synths, energetic guitar, and Carmichael’s ghostly vocals all dissolve into each other to build something ethereal and oddly impossible to shake. The band calls it the quintessential sundayclub song — and after one listen, it’s hard to argue.

The single digs into Carmichael’s complicated relationship with being photographed and seen — something that comes with the territory when you’re a working musician, whether you’re feeling it that day or not. “It can get really overwhelming and all-consuming when so much of your energy is put into your physical looks,” she explains, “especially when you just don’t feel like being in the spotlight or having that kind of attention on you.” It’s an honest, relatable anxiety dressed up in shimmering pop clothes.

The video — directed by Qran Zuh and the first in a planned trilogy — drops you into a hazy, angst-filled New Year’s Eve garage party, overindulgence and miscommunication included. It’s got the right amount of woozy nostalgia to match the song perfectly.

About the Album

‘SUNDAYCLUB’ is set for release on July 10th, 2026 via Paper Bag Records, and it’s been a long time coming — four years in the making, starting in the basement bedroom of Carmichael’s family home. The record explores that particular liminal fog of early adulthood: caught between who you were and who you’re turning into, missing moments even as they happen.

That last part is a concept the band calls “pre-nostalgia” — experiencing nostalgia in real time, grieving a moment before it’s even passed. Album track Blue Wave was built around that feeling. “The song sort of exists in this weird space between the past and the present,” Carmichael says, “exposing my anxiety about time passing too quickly and my tendency to overromanticize moments as they’re happening.” Same, honestly.

The chemistry between Carmichael and St. Pierre is clearly the engine here — intuitive, symbiotic, and apparently magnetic enough to catch the ear of Stephen Carroll (guitarist of Canadian indie-rock legends The Weakerthans), who tipped off Paper Bag Records’ A&R and helped land the duo their first label deal. Their 2025 debut EP ‘Bannatyne’ earned them a spot on Exclaim!‘s ‘5 Emerging Canadian Artists You Need to Hear’ list. The full-length feels like the natural next chapter.
