If you’ve been sleeping on Dublin noise-rock trio Bucket, consider this your wake-up call — and it’s going to be loud. The band have just released their new EP ‘Mosaic’, a five-track psychological deep dive that makes their 2025 debut ‘Muck’ sound like a warm-up.
Produced by the band alongside James Eager (Lankum, The Scratch), ‘Mosaic’ was recorded between Transmission Rooms Studio in Longford and Camden Studios in Dublin. But the geography is almost beside the point — sonically, this thing exists somewhere between a breakbeat spiral and a full-on mental breakdown, and that’s a compliment. Each track is framed as an interior monologue from a fictional narrator deep in the throes of paranoia, mania, trauma or obsession. Vocalist Cian Dahdouh explains the concept:
“All of the lyrics are interior monologues from fictional narrators dealing with extreme psychological states – paranoia, mania, trauma, obsession. I liked the idea of these different perspectives forming a bigger picture, like a mosaic. I found it interesting to think anyone around you could be having thoughts like this and you’d never know.“
It’s a hell of a premise, and Bucket pull it off. The EP moves through five distinct entry points — from the unravelling, breakbeat-fuelled spiral of DNB to the suffocating intensity of Nonsense and the brutal, destructive climax of Memento. The focus single Nails sits squarely in the middle of all of it. Building on the abrasive DNA of ‘Muck’, the band push further into heavier electronic territory and hardcore intensity, snapping between danceable hooks and crushing guitar dynamics with zero warning. It’s disorienting. It’s exhilarating. It’s exactly what it should be.
BBC 6 Music called them “Dublin’s loudest band” after a face-melting set, while DIY Magazine placed them “among the most pummelling and progressive noise-rock acts right now.” God Is In The TV says ‘Mosaic’ is “utterly captivating,” and Notion called it “a manic fever dream in all the right ways.” Hard to argue with any of that.
Formed by guitarist/vocalist Cian Dahdouh and bassist Emmet McNamee — who met in college, arriving from garage-punk and metal/hardcore backgrounds respectively — Bucket have been tearing up DIY stages since 2021. Drummer Korey Thomas (Bricknasty) rounds out the lineup. The trio have already shared stages with YARD and Heavy Lungs, turned heads at Eurosonic (flagged as a festival highlight by Dutch broadcaster 3voor12), and played Primavera Sound, New Colossus in NYC and Supersonic Block Party in Paris. Not bad.
The summer festival run is stacked — ArcTanGent, FOCUS Wales, Sniester Fest and more. Catch them while you still can claim you were early.
