Deerhoof have shared their new single My Lovely Cat, which is dedicated to world-famous cat Lil Bub. The track was recorded and mixed by Mike Bridavsky at Winnipeg, Canada’s No Fun Club, and mastered by Bridavsky at Russian Recording. With lyrics written and sung in Japanese by Satomi Matsuzaki (who also illustrated its artwork), My Lovely Cat is as groovy as it is bittersweet, and marks Deerhoof’s first new music since their 2021 LP, ‘Actually, You Can’.  Listen to the track via YouTube below or you can also stream it here.

“If you were going to compose a song about a cute cat from the internet, and then track down the guy known for their cute cat from the internet to produce it, you would be shrewd indeed. This we did not do, because we didn’t know about Mike Bridavsky or Lil Bub when we wrote the song. Well, we think about him now: a true collaborator and artist and friend!” – Deerhoof

Deerhoof are playing select headline west coast dates this fall. Recent shows in Europe have featured a different new song. Stay tuned for more new music from Deerhoof in 2023. In the meantime, enjoy the English translation of My Lovely Cat:

My Lovely Cat! (lyrics translated from Japanese)
MY LOVELY CAT!
MY LOVELY, LOVELY CAT!
I CAN’T EVEN LEAVE HOME!
LET’S MONITOR ON PET-CAM
SHALL I START INSTA-GRAM OR TIK-TOK?
LIKES AND LOVES EXPECTED

HOW’S THIS CHORD-PROGRESSION?
HELLO! I AM ASKING YOU.
HOW’S THIS CHORD-PROGRESSION?
AGAIN, I AM ASKING YOU!

LEARNED PAW
THE OTHER-PAW AS WELL
SIT, TOO
A CLEVER ONE

GOD PLEASE MAKE MY WISH COME TRUE
ONE WISH
GET SLOWER,
GRADUALLY GET SLOWER
MAKE LONGEVITY LONGER
MAKE YOU MY IMMORTAL FRIEND
YOU ARE MY MIRACLE
