Cardiff’s own punk-powered firecrackers Panic Shack are back at it, and this time they’re emptying out their frustrations—and their pockets—in one last burst from their debut album ‘Panic Shack’ out now via Brace Yourself Records.
Their latest single, Pockets, is a punchy, chant-heavy anthem that immediately grabs you by the collar with its shouted intro: “VAPE! PHONE! KEYS! LIP GLOSS!” If you’ve ever worn women’s clothing, you already know the crime against fashion we’re talking about—no damn pockets.
Pockets isn’t just a fun, bouncy punk track (though it definitely is that), it’s a rallying cry. The band takes a very real and maddening issue—pocket inequality—and wraps it in their signature sass, humour, and social smarts. As the band explains:
“’Pockets’ is about an unspoken bond between women, something men will never quite understand… It’s a fun, tongue-in-cheek song in classic Shack style, describing something a bit silly but with a deeper social commentary on a bigger issue: inequality and patriarchal control.”
The track comes with a video directed by Ren Faulkner that stitches together footage from their packed-out Don’t Quit Your Day Job tour across the UK this past spring. It’s chaotic, sweaty, and infectious—just like their live shows.
