South London’s wildest sibling duo, PUNCHBAG (aka Clara and Anders Bach), are back and firing on all cylinders with their latest single I Love This!—a defiant, adrenalized blast of rave-pop that punches through the emotional grey zone and comes out glittering. It’s out now via Mute.
Following their riotous debut EP ‘I’m Not Your Punchbag’ (released in May), the new track takes things up several notches—mixing head-spinning synths, chaotic energy, and enough emotional whiplash to leave you breathless. It’s what Clara calls an “anti-depression anthem”, but don’t expect it to be all sunshine and serotonin. This is catharsis in neon—where the “fleas, drugstores, tea leaves, dopamine dreams” all collide at once in a euphoric mess.
Written at 3am in Berlin, I Love This! spirals through extremes with zero apologies. Anders brings the maximalist, speaker-blowing production, while Clara’s lyrics cascade like a brain unraveling in real time. It’s loud, it’s unpredictable, and it has no interest in hiding the ugly parts. And yet—it’s playful too. There’s a wink behind the madness, a nudge that says: yeah, life’s a lot… but sometimes, that’s the point.
“Sometimes life really is an extreme sport,” Clara says. “So the highs should be celebrated. Getting through a shit phase should be danced about—with synths, a dance tempo, and something to shout!”
That loud-quiet-louder ethos is becoming a PUNCHBAG signature. Every release dials the drama up to eleven—leaning harder into the weird, sharper into the pop, and deeper into the feeling. If it’s not intense, what’s the point?
Their live shows match the vibe: unfiltered, sweaty, and gloriously chaotic. Whether it’s a packed club in London or a festival stage in Berlin, PUNCHBAG shows are communal therapy through sound—built for dancing, shouting, and maybe crying a bit too.
Their debut EP may have only clocked in at 15 minutes, but it made a serious impact. NME, DIY, Dork, CLASH, Stereogum, PAPER, Wonderland, and a whole chorus of tastemakers were quick to jump on board. Spotify tapped them as a RADAR: First Listen artist, and their first headline show at Bermondsey Social Club sold out in a flash.
Now, with I Love This!, the Bachs are doubling down on what they do best: making music that’s raw, loud, emotionally unstable, and absolutely irresistible.
