Coming from the southernmost point of the Australian continent, the Tasmanian indie rock band Lyke Giants have unveiled their brand new single Jacob. Take a listen to the track via Soundcloud below.
Collaborating with Paul Mckercher (The Vines, Sarah Blasko, Papa vs. Pretty), the trio are expanding their body of work with more indie-rock sounds and atmospheric vibes with the new track. Jacob is a slow-burner that reflects an affinity to Jacob in the biblical story of Jacob, when he wrestles with God to receive a new name. The track continually builds until landing to explode in a mass of musical tension, growing with a chanting vocal declaration to saturate the listener in a spacious soundscape. Jacob is out now via a self release and you can pick it up via iTunes.
The band has been on an upward curve since their debut album in 2013, gaining blog love from around the world and even more success recently with their release in August, Let Up. Back home in Australia Lyke Giants have also thrived, performing at The Falls Festival multiple times and supporting bands such as British India and Faker. The new single is a follow-up to Spite, which focused on a steady and dense groove that drives the song, enabling the listener to jump right in from the outset. Its layers of seemingly contrasting tones all gel to form a soft to gritty, thick, and spacious track.
