Liverpool’s ever-evolving four-piece Courting are back with fresh energy, dropping their brand-new single the twins (1969) via Lower Third Records. It’s the first taste of new music since the release of their third album back in March — and it lands like a shot of adrenaline.
The track also signals the start of something bigger: a deluxe edition of their critically acclaimed album ‘Lust For Life Or: How To Thread The Needle And Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’. Details are still under wraps, but with the twins (1969) leading the way, it looks like Courting are only sharpening their bite.
Frontman Sean Murphy-O’Neill describes the single as being about “only missing something once you’ve lost it. Filling boots, and leftovers.” That feeling bleeds through every looping lyric and tightly wound vocal line, building into a sharp, raw moment of frustration and absence. It’s direct, emotional, and perfectly in step with the album’s obsession with duality, aftermath, and the weird clarity that sometimes comes only in hindsight.
the twins (1969) also follows the band’s huge year on the road. Courting just wrapped their second US tour in twelve months, headlining sold-out shows across the States and joining New York’s Geese for a run of dates that pushed their sound to new audiences.
For anyone still catching up, ‘Lust For Life’ is Courting’s most adventurous record yet — jittery electronics, jagged guitars, and irresistible pop hooks stitched together with mirrored motifs and hidden references. Where their last album leaned into theatrical scale, ‘Lust For Life’ thrives on punch and contrast: short, sharp bursts that reveal new depth with every spin.
From the rave-punk collision of Stealth Rollback to the knotty emotions of the title track, the album plays like a restless collage — bold, playful, and impossible to pin down. And now, with the deluxe edition on the horizon, Courting are set to keep that momentum rolling.
