KNEECAP drop anthemic title track and video for FENIAN — New album out May 1
Belfast rap trio KNEECAP are back and they’re not here to play nice. The group have shared the video for their latest single, FENIAN, the title track from their forthcoming second album ‘FENIAN’, out May 1 on Heavenly Recordings — and honestly, it hits like a freight train wrapped in a tricolour balaclava.
The track is exactly what you’d hope for: raucous, anthemic, and utterly unapologetic. It’s already the kind of song that feels like it’s been around forever — a future festival singalong in the making. At its core, FENIAN is an act of reclamation, taking a word once weaponized as an anti-Irish slur and turning it into a rallying cry. The band put it best themselves:
“An Anthem to embrace our Fenian past, and to cure our colonial hangover by reconnecting the warriors of Irish folklore with the Fenian c*nts from the North of Ireland today.“
The video — shot in and around West Belfast by director Thomas James — matches the track’s energy with a beautifully unhinged, surreal energy. DJ Provai’s now-iconic tricolor balaclava is front and center throughout. James described the shoot as nothing short of a fever dream:
“For me, this track is about a reclaiming of identity. Not only of the word, but for people too… A trippy whirlwind through people and places who embody the spirit of the boys and the song. It was a blast. It was chaos. It was a fever dream of running around Ireland convincing people to pop a bally on and do something mental. Good times had by all.“
Produced by Dan Carey, ‘FENIAN’ also features previous singles Smugglers & Scholars — recently spotlighted on COLORSxSTUDIOS — and Liars Tale. The full album is a relentless ride through punk-rave, acid house, and hip-hop, tackling everything from Irish language pride and political resistance to masculinity, addiction, and grief. Standouts include the riotous Big Bad Mo, the powerful Palestine (feat. Fawzi), and the tender closing track Irish Goodbye. It’s darker, sharper, and more assured than anything they’ve done before — a clear new peak.
Tiochfaidh ár lá. Somebody sample that.
