Los Angeles-based band Provoker have shared the official video for their latest single Since Then. The single is Provoker’s first release since 2018’s ‘Dark Angel’ EP. The video which was directed by Carl Raymond Hansen and you can check it out via YouTube below.

About the song Provoker’s Christian Petty says, “At its core it’s a love song, beyond that it’s about keeping good memories alive and letting the bad ones die. It’s more relevant now than ever during these times of isolation, where we are forced to be with our memories and thoughts.”

Since Then is also available on Spotify now.

The members of Provoker are originally from the Bay Area and currently reside in Los Angeles. Hailing from San Jose, Oakland and Sacramento, its members have diverse sonic backgrounds in underground music, ranging from R&B, to punk, to metal. With time spent in DIY spaces and horror-splattered silver screens, the dregs of retail, odd jobs and warehouses, these Californians continue to mutate into organic, recognizable shadow forms while paying tribute to the analog/digital past.

Led by the core-writing duo of multi instrumentalist Jonathan Lopez and vocalist Christian Petty (featuring live members Kristian Moreno and Wilfredo Palacios, on percussion and bass), Provoker carves out its identity with a unique take on post-punk and dark wave. Since Then‘s digitally filtered beats provide a firm backbone for solid, infectious bass lines, effectively marrying  effectively marrying New Order to lo-fi Prince. Lopez’s flanged guitar/synth sheets the rhythm section with distorted melodies, dichotomously alien and familiar. Petty croons with R&B conviction and smoothness that boldly counterpoint the (at times) murky atmosphere.

Since Then was recorded at home by Lopez and Petty, mixed by Steve Nalepa, and beautifully mastered by Josh Bonati. With pulsing humanity, Provoker provide a perfectly imperfect danceable space in our current tech ruinscape.
