Montreal’s shimmering synth-pop duo Bibi Club—aka Adèle Trottier-Rivard and Nicolas Basque (of Plants and Animals fame)—just dropped something seriously special. They released ‘Feu de garde (les braises),’ a deluxe reissue of their 2024 album ‘Feu de garde,’ via Secret City Records. Think of it as the one-year birthday party for an already beloved record—and the guest list just got a wild upgrade.
Front and center is the fresh new version of fan fave you can wear a jacket or a shirt, now featuring none other than Calvin Johnson (yes, that Calvin Johnson, legendary voice of Beat Happening and founder of K Records). His unmistakable vocals add this tender, gritty dimension to the track, and if that wasn’t enough to melt you, there’s also some dreamy saxophone action courtesy of Paris-based artist Dimitri Milbrun. It’s equal parts stroll-through-a-foggy-city and late-night heart-to-heart.
This version feels like a duet—two people walking, talking, maybe sharing a moment. Bibi Club says the song was always meant to be that way, and Calvin brought “depth and tension” to the conversation. With the sax weaving in raw, comforting energy, the result is haunting and warm, like flickering firelight on your favourite memories.
Also included in the deluxe edition: three new tracks, including their lush March-released cover of Stereolab’s Orgiastic. If that doesn’t make your ears perk up, we don’t know what will. Oh—and vinyl lovers take note: there’s a limited edition 7-inch featuring the new Calvin collab and “Le feu II,” available now via K Records.
‘Feu de garde’ was already turning heads last year, scooping up Album of the Week nods from Brooklyn Vegan, Billboard Canada, and praise from MOJO, Exclaim!, Bandcamp, and more. Mixed by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding), mastered by Matt Colton (Depeche Mode, James Blake), and featuring vocals from Helena Deland and more, it’s a hypnotic swirl of synthy French pop, textured guitars, and emotional depth.
If you missed their first record, ‘Le soleil et la mer,’ it landed on the 2023 Polaris Music Prize Long List and proved these two have a thing for turning intimate living room dance parties into world-class sonic journeys. (Fun fact: “Bibi” is what they call their loved ones—the people they dance with.)
Bibi Club’s music has always burned with slow, glowing intensity. On ‘Feu de garde,’ that fire represents connection, resilience, community, and care. Now with les braises (the embers), that warmth lingers just a little longer—like hands held near a fire on a cold night.
‘Feu de garde (les braises)’ is out now on all platforms via Secret City Records.
Limited edition vinyl available through K Records.
Catch them live this summer across Canada, including a hometown set at Osheaga Festival in Montreal on August 1st. You will want to be there.
