From their hometown streets in Wigan to the electric buzz of Tokyo nights, The Lathums are living out the kind of indie dream you’d write into a movie script. But instead of slowing down, they’re speeding things up with the release of their latest single, Cobblestones—a bright, jangle-punk tune that packs the punch of The Clash with the shimmer of Johnny Marr guitar lines.
After dropping their third album ‘Matter Does Not Define’ earlier this year, the band has been on a rocket-fueled ascent, and Cobblestones is the newest sonic snapshot in their ever-evolving journey. It’s out now and also features on their upcoming ‘Matter Does Not Define Deluxe’ EP, landing August 22 via Modern Sky UK.
A coming-of-age anthem with real emotional weight, the track kicks off just as The Lathums prepare to take their euphoric live energy overseas—setting their sights on Singapore, Australia, and Japan. But first, they’ll bring it back home with a headline date at Leeds’ Millennium Square for Sounds Of The City on July 12.
Frontman Alex Moore digs deep on Cobblestones, explaining that the song sprouted from teenaged observations of the world around him:
“Where I’m from, cobblestones seem to be everywhere… they started to feel like a symbol for the stories and truths buried under modern life,” he says. “It’s about what gets covered up—not just by concrete or tarmac, but by politics, ego, and time.”
That lyrical depth is part of what’s helped define The Lathums’ rise. From their early breakout hits The Great Escape and Fight On to packing out Glastonbury stages and selling out their 2025 UK tour (including back-to-back nights at Manchester’s O2 Apollo), the band has become one of the most heartfelt, high-flying forces in modern indie.
The four-piece—Alex Moore, Scott Concepcion, Ryan ‘Duz’ Durrans, and honorary Wiganer Matty Murphy—are carving out their own legacy, one heartfelt lyric and sold-out show at a time. If Cobblestones is any indication, there’s no sign of that momentum slowing down.
