Hardcore heavyweights Modern Life Is War are officially back with ‘Life on the Moon’—their first proper full-length album in over a decade, landing September 5 via Deathwish Inc. (digital) and Iodine Recordings (physical). Yeah, it’s been twelve long years, but trust us—it’s been worth the wait.
The new record dives deep into grief, memory, obsession, and the strange beauty of being alive. It’s a heavy trip, full of the emotional intensity and poetic grit the band is known for. Think raw wounds dressed up in reverb and rage. It’s personal. It’s cathartic. It hurts—in the best way.
Today they’ve shared the second single, Jackie Oh No, a dusky ballad draped in melancholy and menace. Frontman Jeff Eaton describes it as “a song about an obsessive love that is as dangerous as it is powerful.” Inspired by shadowy folklore and twisted devotion, the track feels like a doomed love letter scrawled across time, from the badlands to the book depository.
The full album was pieced together over several years with longtime collaborator Brooks Strause and a tight-knit crew of friends. It’s a moody, shape-shifting journey—blending defiance and vulnerability, concrete emotion and celestial weirdness.
