Killing Kind sound the alarm with urgent new single ‘Desperately Holding On’

Swedish post-punk outfit Killing Kind are back with a powerful new single that doubles as a sonic warning flare. Desperately Holding On was born from a raw moment of witnessing climate collapse firsthand. After watching a wildfire rage through the Northern Swedish wilderness—helicopters overhead trying to contain it, while, absurdly, people nearby lit a casual BBQ—the band’s frontperson Björn Norberg turned disbelief into art.

The song channels that urgency with a sharp, emotionally charged sound. It leans hard into classic post-punk territory, echoing the moody tension of the ‘80s, but with a modern pulse. Mats Molund’s drums drive the track forward with a steady insistence, while Mats Wigerdal layers shimmering synth arpeggios that cut through the haze. Norberg brings the track home with chorus-drenched guitar and a stripped-back bassline that nails that melancholic, magnetic post-punk energy.

Lyrically, Desperately Holding On doesn’t hold back. It points the finger at a society clinging to convenience and consumerism, even as the world quite literally burns around us. It’s a call-out, a lament, and a desperate plea all at once.

This release follows the band’s well-received 2023 debut and their breakout single This Beautiful World, which landed airplay not just in Sweden, but across the globe—from the U.S. and Canada to New Zealand and China. Now, with Desperately Holding On and its predecessor The Wall, Killing Kind are setting their sights on an even bigger international audience.
