Late-Night goth pop: Tangled Sheets sink their teeth into ‘Lip Biter’

Tangled Sheets

Seattle’s underground gets a little darker — and a lot more seductive — with the arrival of Tangled Sheets and their debut album ‘Lip Biter’.

The darkwave duo make an immediate impression, slipping into the scene with hushed vocals, smouldering synths, and a distinctly neo-noir mood. Vocalist Erika Czach delivers breathy, intimate lines that feel like whispered secrets in a candlelit room, while Zach Mech’s production pulses with late-night club energy. Think modern goth-pop with a sensual edge — drawing comparisons to the shadowy minimalism of Boy Harsher and the icy allure of NNHMN, but filtered through Tangled Sheets’ own hazy, romantic lens.

Across ten tracks, Lip Biter leans into downtempo beats and vintage electronic textures, reimagined with a fresh vulnerability. Melodic hooks linger, lyrics cut close to the bone, and the overall atmosphere feels intimate — like a late-night drive through neon-lit streets, windows down, heart slightly exposed. There’s a clear love for ’90s dance music and trip-hop here, woven seamlessly into a modern goth framework that feels both nostalgic and new.

Formed in Seattle in winter 2024, Tangled Sheets spent much of 2025 crafting ‘Lip Biter’ as a true collaboration. Czach teams up with former Mors Navis guitarist/vocalist Zach Mech to create a sound inspired by the emotional depth of The Cure, the sleek pop darkness of Phantogram, the raw edge of Crystal Castles, and even the dancefloor confidence of La Bouche.

Self-described as making “horny music for sad people,” Tangled Sheets embrace horror, fantasy, and unapologetic personal expression. ‘Lip Biter’ isn’t just a debut — it’s an invitation. Dim the lights, turn the volume up, and sink into their nocturnal world.
