Brighton’s favourite electro-punk troublemakers CLT DRP are back and they mean business. The feminist trio have dropped explosive new single What Is She For? — out now via all good DSPs — and it’s exactly the kind of genre-blurring, rule-smashing statement we’ve come to expect from one of the UK underground’s most vital acts.

So What Is She For, Exactly?

First things first — this is the opening shot of a larger body of work still to be revealed, and what a way to kick things off. It’s the band’s first new material since 2024 standalone single Until You Showed Me, which earned serious love from Lauren Laverne and the BBC 6Music crew. What Is She For? picks up right where that momentum left off and then some.

Produced and mixed by long-time collaborator Ben Hampson (Lambrini Girls, DITZ), the track continues CLT DRP’s ongoing deconstruction of traditional gender roles and genre constraints — heavier in some places, more electronic in others, and sharper than ever in its songwriting. It’s the sound of a band who’ve been on the road, absorbing everything, and coming back with something refined.

Vocalist Annie Dorrett puts it best:

“This single is a not so subtle protest to the endless requirements you have to meet as a DIY AFAB fronted band. Our next piece of work is an extremely diverse collection of music. We wanted our first single back to show another side of us that perhaps our audience hasn’t heard yet. What Is She For? displays more objections and questions regarding classic gender roles, even more so than our previous work. Sonically it’s more mature and fine tuned, while the production still emulates the fresh energy we have playing live.”

The Backstory (In Case You’re New Here)

CLT DRP — Annie Dorrett (vocals, they/them), Scott Reynolds (guitar, he/him), and Daphne Koskeridou (drums, she/her) — have been pushing at the walls of punk and electronic music since forming in Brighton in 2017. Their debut album ‘Without The Eyes’ landed on Small Pond Records in 2020 to widespread critical love and serious radio support from BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, and Radio X.

Their 2023 album ‘Nothing Clever, Just Feelings’, released on Venn Records (home to Bob Vylan, Witch Fever, Meryl Streek), cemented their reputation as one of the UK’s most compelling and original acts. Recorded at Shaken Oak Studios in Oxford and produced by Alex Gordon (The Cure, Tigercub, Sea Power, Blood Red Shoes), it’s a record that digs deep into queerness, heartbreak, gender fluidity, and the messy beauty of being human. Kerrang! called it “one of the freshest albums to spring from the UK underground in some time” — and they weren’t wrong.

Festival slots at ArcTanGent, 2000 Trees, The Great Escape, Boomtown and Best Kept Secret (NL), support runs with Gary Numan, and a sold-out hometown show at Green Door Store later — CLT DRP have been doing the work. What Is She For? is the next chapter, and we’re very much here for it.
