Jah Wobble dives deep into the bass on new solo album ‘Dub Volume 1’

Jah Wobble

Dub legend, bass icon, and all-around sonic adventurer Jah Wobble has returned with ‘Dub Volume 1’ — a hypnotic new album dropped via Dimple Discs that’s pure heavyweight goodness. If you’re into cavernous basslines, dubby textures, and music that lives and breathes rhythm, this one’s a must.

Crafted entirely by Wobble himself — writing, playing, and arranging every track — ‘Dub Volume 1’ is a deep, meditative listen that connects his East London roots to his expansive global musical vision. It’s also a visual experience, featuring cover and inner sleeve art painted by Wobble, with the limited-edition vinyl arriving in clear with swirls of yellow and red, mirroring the artwork. It’s all heart, all vibes.

The album’s out now digitally and physically, and it’s all FCC clean — so whether you’re sharing it on air or just spinning it during a late-night dub session, you’re good.

Highlights? Oh yeah.

  • Tyson Dub Remix is a loving tribute to his late Staffordshire bull terrier — a track full of warmth and groove.
  • Dub In The East dives into Wobble’s East London heritage, pulling threads from Irish immigration to his family’s river-working past.
  • Tragic Slavic Dub and Old Jewish East End Of London Dub round out a rich cultural palette woven into bass-heavy beats and spacey, swirling echoes.

This release marks Wobble’s first solo drop on Dimple Discs, though he’s no stranger to the label, having previously teamed up with Telefís (Cathal Coughlan + Jacknife Lee), The Ukrainians, Jon Klein (Siouxsie & The Banshees / Specimen), and the Irish folk-punk project Bring Your Own Hammer.

A founding member of Public Image Ltd. (that’s right — ‘Metal Box,’ anyone?), Wobble has been pushing musical boundaries since the late ‘70s. He’s shaped post-punk, dub, and experimental music alike — working with artists from Holger Czukay to Björk, from Massive Attack to Baaba Maal. He’s also a published author and still plays hard with his outfit Invaders of the Heart.

More recently, Wobble has been recording with his sons in their project Tian Qiyi, joined forces with Ken Boothe for Old Fashioned Ways, and dropped the Timeless Roots collab with Horace Andy. Let’s just say, the man doesn’t sit still.

The album’s out now — streaming on all platforms, with vinyl and CD available via Bandcamp, Resident Music, and Norman Records.
