LEVITATION is back with another treat for the weird and the wonderful. Hot off the heels of announcing its stacked 2025 festival lineup, the Austin-based psych juggernaut is conjuring up something spooky for Halloween weekend—Halloween Freakend, a two-night explosion of mind-melting sound at The Far Out Lounge.
Who’s Playing?
Hold onto your wigs and fangs, because this one’s wild. Friday, October 31 brings Viagra Boys, Stereolab, The Black Lips, Bitchin Bajas, and J’Cuuzi to the stage. Then, on Saturday, November 1, things get delightfully unhinged with Machine Girl, Clown Core, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Lightning Bolt, Lip Critic, Porcelain, and Ha Ha Laughing.
Costumes highly encouraged—because when Stereolab and Clown Core are on the same weekend bill, normal rules just don’t apply.
Where It’s Going Down
All the freaky festivities will unfold at The Far Out Lounge, deep in South Austin’s weird heart. If you’ve never danced in a cape under the Texas moon surrounded by people dressed like David Bowie, now’s your chance.

Why It Matters
Since its psychedelic birth as Austin Psych Fest in 2008, LEVITATION has been an anchor for the city’s off-kilter music scene. What started as a homegrown psych rock gathering has grown into a full-blown global movement, spawning sister festivals in France and a label that’s released live vinyl from legends like King Gizz, Primal Scream, and Kikagaku Moyo.
The Halloween tie-in isn’t new—LEVITATION’s main festival often falls on or near All Hallows’ Eve, and over the years it’s become the place in Austin for costumed, kaleidoscopic chaos. But with the flagship fest moving to September 25–28, 2025 at the Palmer Events Center, Halloween Freakend is here to keep the ghoulish tradition alive.
Looking Ahead
While you plot your costume and practice your mosh-pit lunges, keep in mind: this is just one piece of the LEVITATION universe. The main festival this fall will light up venues across the city with genre-hopping lineups, and Austin Psych Fest returns in May 2026 to continue paying homage to the city’s 60s-era fuzzed-out roots.
Whether you’re into hypnotic krautrock, punishing breakcore, gooey analog synths, or just dressing up and dancing like a maniac, Halloween Freakend promises two nights of pure, unfiltered weirdness.
