Liily share EP title track ‘I Can Fool Anybody In This Town’

Liily, a group of teenagers from the San Fernando Valley, have shared the title track from their debut EP ‘I Can Fool Anybody In This Town’. Take a listen to the single via Soundcloud below.

The debut EP is out now via Southern California-based indie label Flush Records. The EP title is a direct quote from poet Charles Bukowski. “‘I Can Fool Anybody In This Town’ is the by-product of our urge to get music out into the world, we have been playing these songs for over a year now and it’s a huge weight off to be able release them,” the band shares.

Liily’s music draws from the jagged stimuli of their upbringings to make something distinctly Los Angeles in 2019. With influences from Jane’s Addiction and Rage Against the Machine, it’s suburban valley music from the future, even as it calls back to 1991. The EP also includes their latest single Sepulveda Basin and Sold – which received airplay from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders – as well as Toro, the video for which has been viewed over 1M times on YouTube. Toro in particular stems from a time when the band was “frustrated about not being productive. The emphasis and repetition on the lyrics represent our eagerness to start being proactive,” said lead vocalist, Dylan Nash in an interview with Atwood Magazine. The electrified Sold video premiered exclusively on Spotify’s ‘Rock This’ and ‘New Noise’ playlists, since gaining nearly 400k views and over 1M streams. Meanwhile, Apple Music playlisting has included hits on ‘New Releases (Rock),’ ‘Hot Tracks (Rock),’ ‘Rock Workout,’ ‘Breaking Rock,’ ‘New Rock,’ and ‘Best of the Week.’

Liily’s live shows invoke a manic intensity. “We like our music to make people crazy” guitarist Sam De La Torre says. “When we write something, we want it to hit really hard. If we knock people out, we’ve done our job.”Audiences of often under-aged kids turn up to dance and absolutely tear the place apart alongside the band. Having started out playing mostly house parties and warehouses, it’s only recently that this new youth culture has even entered into nightclubs. ‘I Can Fool Anybody In This Town’ comes shortly after the band sold out their four-week January 2019 festival, Brekfest at The Echo in Los Angeles. The festival included performances from some of LA’s finest such as Starcrawler, Death Valley Girls, Deap Vally, Skating Polly, and Superet.

They’re currently touring the West Coast with The Glorious Sons, with a packed schedule at SXSW in Austin, TX next week, before the arrive in the UK for The Great Escape. While on the road, they stopped by Paste’s Daytrotter to record a live performance which you can watch here.
