Lawrence, Kansas noise-bringers Flooding are back in full flame mode, sharing a final glimpse into their upcoming EP ‘object 1’ (out July 11) with the blistering new single depictions of the female body. It’s a track that doesn’t tiptoe around desire—it walks straight into the fire, wrapped in feedback and frayed nerve endings.

Frontperson Rose Brown delivers gut-punch vocals like journal entries scorched in reverb “i’m sick and i know it / but it’s hard letting go of it / i tried to forget her.” There’s lust, there’s ache, and a deep undercurrent of desperate hope clawing through the distortion. “Sexual fantasies are a form of hope,” Brown says. “If you’re ever horribly depressed, you should try having a crush on someone.” That’s the vibe—tender chaos, wrapped in melody and menace.

The new single follows your silence is my favorite song, released in May, a slow burn that turned inward, dissecting manipulative masculinity with haunting ease and razor-sharp tension. Brown’s voice floats through buzzing guitars like a ghost with a grudge, whispering lines like “your bleeding heart, my lucky charm” before everything explodes.

Flooding doesn’t fit into a box—they bend the corners until it breaks. Formed in 2021, the trio (Rose Brown, bassist Cole Billings, drummer Zach Cunningham) have been sculpting their own sound from pieces of slowcore, post-hardcore, noise rock, and something heavier that doesn’t quite have a name yet. Their debut ‘Silhouette Machine’ (2023) was a stunner, landing on Rolling Stone’s Best of the Year list and drawing comparisons to Codeine, Slint, and True Widow—but honestly, Flooding just sounds like Flooding. And now with object 1, they’re pulling in tighter, thinking like pop stars but staying gloriously raw and jagged.

Expect more melodic vocals, bigger hooks, and yes, still the kind of sonic meltdowns that leave you reeling. This is music that lets the softness and the chaos sit in the same room, holding hands and howling at the ceiling.

Flooding just wrapped a national run with Cryogeyser and have more tour dates on the way. Until then, let depictions of the female body melt in your ears. It’s not just a song—it’s a sensation.

About Flooding:
Flooding is a Kansas-based trio that builds emotional landscapes out of feedback, restraint, and moments of pure catharsis. Led by Rose Brown, the band carves out a sound that doesn’t conform but confronts—slowcore meets noise rock meets whatever’s left in the wreckage. It’s vulnerable. It’s brutal. And it’s impossible to ignore.
