LA’s Clarion are turning chaos into catharsis — new EP ‘Blue Fairy’ out now
There’s something happening out of East LA that deserves your full attention. Clarion — the shoegaze trio born out of a shared lockout space — have just dropped their new EP, ‘Blue Fairy‘, and it hits like a wall of sound with something urgent to say.
Formed around the creative axis of Saya Oliva (bass/vocals, she/her) and Anthony Sanchez (guitar/he/him), with Javier Flores holding it down on drums, Clarion pull from a gloriously noisy canon — Fennel, Sonic Youth, HUM, Julie, Black Flag, Paramore — and filter it through something rawer and more instinctive. ‘Blue Fairy’ is the sound of a band discovering their voice in real time, and what a voice it is: abrasive, emotionally alive, and completely uninterested in being polished. It’s shoegaze, post-punk, and noise rock thrown into a blender and cranked to eleven. If you’re not feeling it in your chest, turn it up.
When they’re not DIY-gigging at a Denny’s (yes, really), they’re back in that East LA room — jamming, debating, refining. The result is a live show that turns any space, stage or basement, into a cathartic event. Catch them if you can.
