FRIGS share “’God Hates A Coward’ video lifted from forthcoming EP

Frigs

Toronto-based four-piece FRIGS have announced signing to Arts & Crafts for the release of a new EP, ‘Slush,’ which will be out June 10th. Along with the announcement, the band has shared a video for the EP’’s first single, “God Hates A Coward

Director Mushual Friend explains the video saying, “”…through the exploration of dominant binaries, we will remember to, as Elizabeth Meyer says, ‘be skeptical of discourses that assign a gender affiliation to the landscape—implicitly or explicitly. The implicit affiliations are manifest as “female”—the “other” who is seen but not heard.’ God Hates A Coward explores feminist geography from a spatial standpoint, expanding the relationship between landscape and architecture, a spherical way of approaching a discourse that has become rooted in deconstruction rather than reconstruction.”

FRIGS is made up of Bria, Duncan, Lucas, and Edan. The band pairs the raw, emotional grunge of PJ Harvey with the immersive, psychedelic post-punk of early Sonic Youth. With each member bringing a unique set of influences, FRIGS creates a sound that is hard to pin down and an impression that’s unshakable.

Led by the force of Bria’’s vocals, the band has earned a reputation for putting on a hypnotic and visceral live performance. Embracing the mercurial and experimental, their shows are built upon instinct; a vocal growl can unexpectedly give way to a hushed whisper; languid drones boil over into guttural and searing tones.

As members of Toronto’’s multi-disciplined Heretical Objects Cooperative, community and collaboration are essential to FRIGS’ approach and aesthetic. Maintaining the communal, do-it-yourself spirit of their forebearers, the band bought recording equipment and turned their Toronto apartment into a studio where they wrote, engineered, and mixed their forthcoming EP, ‘Slush’.
