Twist release ‘Calendar Girls’ video

Twist Calendar Girls

Twist Calendar GirlsTwist have released the video for Calendar Girls. The track is lifted from the band’s 2016 LP, ‘Spectral,’ which was released via Buzz RecordsThe video was directed by Brittany Lucas and Jacq Andrade, and is set at a house party, with running subtitles that explore the inner monologues of the guests as they interact over the course of a night.

The track itself exemplifies the heady dream pop that makes up much of the band’s debut release, applying an aesthetic that leans towards shoegaze acts like MBV and Slowdive, and applying it to frontwoman Laura Hermiston’s deftly written songs, in this instance examining objectification and the way it warps personal relationships. Watch the video via YouTube below.

As Hermiston explains,“‘Calendar Girls’ is a reflection on how people treat each other like products, in relationships and otherwise. I was thinking about men’s magazines and how the way women are objectified creates a mentality where romantic and sexual relationships become a form of consumption. Sometimes it feels like the drive to acquire material possessions and the desire to be with someone gets some how mixed up. It changes how you appreciate the people in your life when society encourages you to form superficial infatuations with people you’ve never met.”

‘Spectral’ is out now via Buzz Records. It can be purchased here.

The band are currently on tour and the remaining show details can be found below.
