War Baby @ The Bovine May 6, 11 pm – CMW 2014

This year’s CMW kicked off for me on a very high note with my first show of the festival being Vancouver’s heavy rock trio War Baby. From the first track of their set at the Bovine, it was like a R’n’R kick in the chops, and never let up through their entire set – luckily I remembered my ear plugs or my ears would still be ringing (safety first, kids!). Full of energy and sounding like a heavier Bleach-era Nirvana (this is definitely a good thing in my eyes).

Not only did the trio unleash their catchy, fuzz-laden sound on Toronto last night, but singer Jon Redditt provided some very funny chatter between songs. This was almost as entertaining as the music itself.

This was a solid, energetic set. My biggest regret is not picking up a vinyl copy of their LP (sigh), so if they are playing near you, make sure to check them out – and mail me a copy of their record.
