Wild Flag release debut album

The debut self-titled album from Wild Flag, a Portland, OR / Washington, DC-based 4-piece indie rock band consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Rebecca Cole, Mary Timony, and Janet Weiss, will be available online and in stores on September 13 via Merge Records.

Wild Flag has a very good indie rock pedigree. The members of Wild Flag have played in numerous and notable bands including Sleater-Kinney, Helium, Quasi, The Minders, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, and others. Here are the connections that eventually formed Wild Flag. Brownstein and Weiss were in Sleater-Kinney and regularly toured with Timony’s band Helium. Brownstein and Timony played in a side project called The Spells. Rebecca Cole’s band The Minders frequently opened for Sleater-Kinney. Weiss and Cole play together in the 1960’s garage-rock cover band The Shadow Mortons. After collaborating on a score for a documentary, future practices were scheduled, songs were written, Wild Flag was formed.
